Guatemala tour update

Limosa guide Fernando Enrique Navarrete has just returned from leading our latest tour to the Central American nation of Guatemala and reports as follows:

“The trip can only be described as a complete success. Honestly, it may well have been the best tour we’ve ever run in the country. This year’s group was fantastic, the atmosphere throughout the journey was excellent, and the birds performed better than ever.

We managed to see virtually all of the main targets, often in truly spectacular fashion. Highlights included several encounters with the impressive Horned Guan, some of the best views of the magnificent Resplendent Quetzal we’ve had in recent years, and an unforgettable close encounter with three male Ocellated Quail.

Pink-headed Warbler seemed to be everywhere, and we also enjoyed excellent sightings of Goldman’s Warbler, Azure-rumped Tanager and Fulvous Owl, along with most of the regional endemics. We were also fortunate to observe some species that are only very rarely recorded on this itinerary, including the elusive Scaled Antpitta and the nomadic Maroon-chested Ground-Dove.

But as always in Guatemala, the trip was about much more than birds. The warmth of the local culture, the beautiful landscapes, and especially the food played a huge part in making this such a memorable experience. Sharing great meals, discovering local traditions and enjoying the relaxed atmosphere of the country added another layer to an already unforgettable journey.

All in all, a truly outstanding trip and a wonderful reminder of why Guatemala remains one of our favourite destinations.”

Limosa’s next tour to Guatemala is expected to run in late 2027. If you wish to register your interest so we can update you when details are confirmed, please contact the office.
