Travel news update

Limosa and the restart of international travel

In recent days, there have been some widely welcomed changes to the UK government’s “traffic light system” for travel and the removal of the need for costly PCR tests for some destinations. On 20 September 2021, there was further good news with the announcement that as from November 2021, double-vaccinated British citizens will be able to visit the USA.

These changes should certainly make international travel significantly easier but with winter coming and coronavirus cases expected to increase, Limosa Holidays (and our sister brand WildWings) will continue to adopt our "open and honest" approach and for now, will not be taking deposits for any trips.

We believe there is still a lot of uncertainty about what will happen in the coming months and our view remains that taking “expressions of interest” (with no deposits required) for our 2022 trips remains the most appropriate policy at the current time.

Whilst travel to the US will soon be possible for those who are double jabbed, in some of the States where we would like to run tours, there is considerable vaccine scepticism, and these areas are seeing some of the highest rates of infections since the start of the pandemic, with many hospitals at capacity or close to being overwhelmed.

In many other countries outside of Europe (where we would also like to operate trips), covid-19 cases remain high with low vaccination rates and the health care systems continue to be under considerable strain.

Indeed, in parts of Europe there remain challenges for even fully vaccinated British citizens as some countries have introduced 'green passes' and without this, one cannot, for example, eat in a restaurant. Do you want to want to be on a trip where every meal is a takeaway collected by your local guide........

Whilst some tour companies have been running trips to red list countries in recent months and effectively suggesting ways to get around virus border requirements, this is not something we consider appropriate. Like many of our clients, we are desperate to start travelling again and restart the Limosa programme of amazing tours, but we will only do so when we believe it is safe and sensible to do so. Your health and your safety are our overriding priorities and we are not convinced some others are thinking in this way......

We remain, of course, very happy to talk to you on the phone, respond to emails and take "expressions of interest" and when the time is right, we look forward to welcoming you on a Limosa birding holiday.

Stay safe and well.

Best wishes

Chris (Collins) and the Limosa team
