Colin Bushell
A birder since his teens, Colin now lives in Easington in East Yorkshire where he spends much of his time in search of migrant birds on the coast at nearby Spurn.
Colin began his tour leading career in the Neotropics working for many years in Peru and Brazil, before expanded his experience with trips to virtually every country in South America. Tours to Mexico and Panama then followed, as well as Costa Rica, a destination he has now led more than a dozen tours to.
After taking a break from tour leading (and working as a seasonal bird surveyor and freelance ornithologist for ecology consultancies), Colin relocated to Yorkshire and returned to tour leading leading Limosa groups to Spain, Italy, Sicily, Hungary, Slovakia, Morocco and Brazil’s Pantanal, as well as UK trips to Islay and the Scottish Solway (the latter being one of his favourite winter birding locations).
With its wealth of wintering Palearctic species, many of which are highly desirable ‘megas’ for UK rarity hunters, Colin has a particular affinity with birding in Asia. Before working in the Neotropics, he visited Thailand and Nepal and after itching to return to the Far East, he visited Borneo and China including Sichuan and the migration hotspots of Beidaihe and Happy Island.
Since joining Limosa, he has led tours to Thailand, Peninsula Malaysia, Taiwan and Bhutan and continues to travel in the region independently, most recently with a month-long trip to Mongolia, perhaps the personal highlight of his birding career!
