Lyubomir Profirov

Lyubo lives in Sofia and graduated from Sofia University in 1981 with a diploma studying the autumn migration of soaring birds. From there, he went on to work in the Bulgarian Ministry of Environment and Water as an expert in the conservation of flora, fauna and protected areas, and as a delegate attending international conferences for RAMSAR, BONN and CITES.

Between 1998 and 2004, Lyubo was a regional coordinator for the Bourgas Wetlands Project, a complex of the four most important lakes in Bulgaria. He is a founder member of the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds, a member of Green Balkan Federation and author or co-author of an impressive swathe of field guides, monographs and popular books, scientific papers, management plans and environmental impact assessments. In 2012, in cooperation with two colleagues, he published The Birds of Balkan Peninsula.

Lyubo has been leading birdwatching and natural history tours across Bulgaria since 1983 - and including more than a dozen tours now for Limosa.
