Chubzang Tangbi
Born and raised in Trongsa, in the heart of Central Bhutan, Chubzang has always felt a deep connection to his country’s rich natural environment. He is a strong advocate for Bhutan’s commitment to preserving its unique biodiversity, which has earned the nation global recognition as a biodiversity hotspot. Over the years, Chubzang has gained extensive knowledge of Bhutan’s culture, traditions, religion, people, and diverse ecosystems.
Chubzang began leading birding tours in 2000, initially working with groups brought to Bhutan by the co-founder of the International Crane Foundation (ICF). His involvement with the ICF led to an internship, during which he studied field ecology, at their centre in Wisconsin, USA. Today, Chubzang is widely regarded as one of Bhutan’s foremost birding experts.
His passion for birding has taken him around the world, with extensive travels throughout the USA, India, Thailand, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and the UK.
In Bhutan, he has led birding groups and conducted research for documentary films, photography, and editorial projects. As a dedicated photographer, Chubzang has exhibited his work in nature reserves and art centres across the UK. His stunning images are also permanently displayed in the departure and arrival lounges of Paro International Airport.
