We've just added FOUR NEW TOURS to our schedule for 2018-2019. Check out our November 2018 trip to France: Dordogne - and don't miss our spring 2019 tours to New Mexico (March), Spain: Ebro Delta (May) and Finland & Arctic Norway (May)
FRANCE: Dordogne in Autumn
Fri 9-Tue 13 November 2018
Why not join us for a delightful autumn break in the beautiful Dordogne region of southwest France, seeking Wallcreeper, Alpine Accentor and other wintering birds, Eagle Owl, woodpeckers and two species of kite.
Designed and led for us by David Simpson, author of the books ‘Birding Dordogne’ and the ‘Crossbill (Wildlife) Guide Dordogne’, and one of Dordogne’s many English residents who visited - and, somehow, never left!
Enjoy the autumnal colours in this picturesque region of southwest France, with its pretty, honey-coloured stone-built villages and imposing chateaux set amidst a rich and varied rural landscape.
USA | New Mexico
Sat 9-Mon 18 March 2019
Our late-winter birding tour to New Mexico takes in one of the greatest spectacles of the avian world. If you want wonderful winter birding, with thousands of wildfowl and cranes - plus lots of raptors too - this is the trip for you!
Up to 20,000 Snow Geese and 8,000 Sandhill Cranes over-winter at the Bosque del Apache and Rio Grande Valley refuges near Albuquerque. Join guide Brian Small there in March for the chance to experience them - plus a host of localised specialities, including Ladder-backed Woodpecker, Woodhouse's Scrub Jay, Chestnut-collared Longspur and up to 3 species of handsome rosy finch: Grey-crowned, Brown-capped and Black.
SPAIN | Ebro Delta, Lleida Plains & Pre Pyrenees
Sun 5-Sun 12 May 2019
The Ebro Delta is easily one of the best birdwatching sites in Europe - on a par with the Coto Doñana and the Camargue. Rarely visited by groups, it is a treasure trove of Mediterranean wetland species - from Little Bittern, Western Swamphen and Red-crested Pochard to Caspian Tern, Slender-billed Gull and Greater Flamingo.
Add the dry plains and mosaic of agricultural fields and natural grasslands around Lleida - with their breeding Montagu's Harrier, Little Bustard, Pin-tailed Sandgrouse and Catalonia's last population of Dupont's Larks – and the ‘Pre-Pyrenees’ for Bearded Vulture, Citril Finch and Western Orphean Warbler... and you have a superb new Limosa tour to Northeast Spain!
FINLAND & ARCTIC NORWAY
Mon 20-Sat 1 June
Our 'Northern Owls & Arctic' tour to Finland & Norway is really something special! We visit at the best time of year to see Scandinavia's breeding owls and taiga specialities before crossing the Arctic Circle and pushing on north to Varangerfjord, in northernmost Norway.
All the key Arctic birds are here - from rare divers and buntings to exotic eiders and owls. Past tour highlights include King and Steller’s Eiders, White-billed Diver, Pallid Harrier, Gyr Falcon, Temminck's Stint, Terek Sandpiper, Long-tailed Skua, Brünnich’s Guillemot, Great Grey, Northern Hawk and Tengmalm's Owls, Siberian Jay, Siberian Tit, Red-flanked Bluetail, Red-throated Pipit, Pine Grosbeak and Rustic Bunting... and more!
